The city of canals, gondolas and serenade is eternal in its beauty and charm. With a long history as a sea power, and a center of culture, trade and art it belongs to rare sights that will stay in your memory for quite a long time.
Day
3: Zadar
Zadar is a former dominant city of the Adriatic
area, it is today a "Treasure-city" which has preserved within its
historical core the remains of the Roman Forum, Saint Donat's
Church, the Romanesque Cathedral of St. Anastasia, St. Mary's church
and Benedictine Convent. The city owns a remarkable collection of
the church art, known under the name "The Gold and Silver of Zadar". |
Day
3 (morning): Starigrad (Hvar Island)
Stari Grad is the collective name for several small towns which grew through the ages. It is located at the end of a bay on the northern side of the Island. A thousand years long history of the Town has left many monuments in the urban structure of the Town. Stari Grad (Faros) is historical heart of the island Hvar, ancient Pharos.
Day
3 (afternoon), 4: Split
Split is the second largest city of Croatia." The
Capital of Dalmatia" gradually developed around the palace of the
Roman emperor Diocletian erected more than 1700 years ago. Your
walking sightseeing starts from the Diocletian's cellars and will be
covering the Cathedral of the Jupiter temple to the Golden Gate (Porta
aurea), across Peristyle and the Market (Pjaca), then the sunny sea
promenade (Riva) and further up to the Marmont street, just after
you pass the fish market up to the Theatre. Strolling in the morning
in Split brings you the atmosphere of a typical Mediterranean city. |
Day
5: Ploce |
The city of Ploce is the youngest city on the Adriatic coast. The city is situated several kilometers west of the mouth of the Neretva River, at the point where its delta touches the karst mountain regions. It provides an access to Mostar and Medugorje as an optional tours.
Day
6 (day): Korcula |
Korcula Island undoubtedly holds a privileged position
among Croatian islands. Here are perhaps even more
legends, tales and monuments than anywhere else. The
island has a number of famous towns including Korcula,
Lumbarda and Vela Luka. The oldest written monument in
Croatia, the "Lumbardska psefizma", in Greek, was found
in Lumbarda. According to legend, Korcula was
established by the Trojan hero Anthenor in the 12th
century BC.
Day
6 (evening), 7: Dubrovnik |
The monument-city of Dubrovnik was the first place to be inscribed on the List of the World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. The former city of Ragusa is widely considered to be most beautiful place of Croatia. Throughout the history the city has competed with mighty Venice to control the waters of Adriatic. Today it still continues to rival Venice with its beauty and charming atmosphere. It would be really hard to single out any of the most fascinating pieces of architecture. The Franciscan an the Dominican Monastery, the Cathedral, the Rector's Palace, Stradun, the imposing city walls and St. Blaise's church figure among the most impressive and interesting sites which simply deserve attention and admiration.
