Day 1, Arrive Prague

You will be met and transferred to your hotel. Dinner with folklore in a local restaurant. Overnight in Prague. (D)

 

 

Day 2, Prague

This morning discover the city and begin with the Old Town Square.  Thousands flock here to view the famous Astronomical Clock with many faces and moving statues. Travel back in time as you visit the Jewish Quarter, St. Nicholas Church and cross the Charles Bridge for amazing views of the city. The rest of the day is at leisure to enjoy exploring the shops in the area or getting lost in the romance and history that fills the air in this city.   Tonight, enjoy an opera performance for a taste of the city’s rich culture. Overnight in Prague. Day 3, Prague

Today travel across the Vltava River to visit the Royal Castle of Hradčany with the Cathedral of St. Vitus.  Continue on to the Old Royal Palace at the Prague Castle which was built in the XII century and home to Czech rulers for hundreds of years. Your next stop will include St. George’s Basilica which is a well preserves Romanesque style church which now serves as one of the best concert halls in Prague.  And finally visit Golden Lane with Daliborka Tower. Your afternoon and evening are at leisure. An optional visit to The Loreta, a baroque church which now houses an exquisite treasury or the Capuchin Monastery  which is especially delightful around Christmas time.  Make sure the try the Czech beer with dinner at a local restaurant or pub. Overnight in Prague. Day 4, Prague/Vienna

Today you will travel to the picturesque city of Vienna, or the “City of Waltz”.  Enjoy your first day in Vienna to yourself. Take an optional day trip to Salzburg and visit the town where the classic film The Sound of Music was set. Or stretch your legs and take a bike tour away from the city and enjoy a wine tasting.  Dinner tonight will be in a typical local Heurigen restaurant, which features Viennese wine and a casual experience. Overnight in Vienna. Day 5, Vienna

Today you will visit the Prater amusement park, one of the oldest in the world.  Most noted is its Riesenrad, or giant Ferris Wheel built to commemorate Franz Josef I.  You will also visit the Hofburg Palace, once the seat of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.  Next stop at the Belvedere Palace and enjoy walking through its elaborately decorated interiors and its quiet gardens outside.   Continue on to the UN buildings and St. Stephen’s Cathedral.  After a free afternoon, to enjoy however you wish, you will attend an evening concert of Strauss’ and Mozart’s music. Overnight in Vienna. (B)

Day 6, Vienna

Take a guided visit to the Kunsthistorische Museum this morning. View the extensive collection of antiquities this museum holds.  Also be sure to see if the museum is holding any special exhibitions of note to further enhance your experience.  The afternoon is up to you… take an optional trip to the woods surrounding Vienna and visit the Seegrotte the largest subterranean lake in Europe.  Or continue to visit the many museums that Vienna is known for.  Finally enjoy your last evening in Vienna by finding a special restaurant for dinner to savor the flavors of the city. Overnight in Vienna. (B)

Day 7, Vienna/Budapest

Continue you trip today by traveling eastbound to Budapest, often called “Paris of the East”. The afternoon is free for independent activities or optional excursions. Try a trip to the small city of Szentendre and view the city from atop Church Hill.  Or escape from the chaos of the city by going to Visegrád and enjoying some good Hungarian Goulash while looking out over the mighty Danube. Overnight in Budapest. Day 8, Budapest

Begin your day with a visit to Heroes’ Square with the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.  Also there is the Millennium Memorial with 118 foot high Corinthian columns dedicated to the Roman Catholic Church.  The former separate cities of Buda and Pest are situated on the opposite banks of the river Danube.  Cross the Chain bridge, one of the many bridges connecting these two parts of the city, or the Liberty Bridge with its mythical falcon-like birds. Continue your tour with views of the decorative Parliament building, the seat of the National Assembly.  Finally stroll down Váci utca, a pedestrian street lined with shops and restaurants.  Spend the rest of your day at leisure.  Overnight in Budapest. Day 9, Budapest

Your morning tour begins at the Castle Hill area.   This area is known for the XII century Matthias Church and Fisherman’s Bastion which offers splendid sweeping views of the city.  Also view the Royal Palace which now houses valuable collections.  Afternoon is free for last minute shopping or relaxing in a café or pub on your last afternoon. Tonight, enjoy dinner with entertainment in a typical Czardas restaurant. Overnight in Budapest. (B, D)

Day 10, Budapest

After breakfast, transfer to the airport.
