Day 1, Sarajevo
You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. The day is at leisure to discover a city where East meets West. Walk around the city to get a feel for its unique culture and take in the beauty of the city. Visit the heartbreaking Romeo and Juliet bridge where a couple tried to get to each other during the height of the war. Enjoy a welcome dinner tonight to your fellow travelers. Overnight in Sarajevo. Day 2, Sarajevo
You will spend the day sightseeing in the thrilling city of Sarajevo. Many cultures and civilizations have influenced Sarajevo the exciting capital of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. On your tour of the city you will visit the exciting Turkish bazaar “Baš Čaršija”. This market is bustling center of daily life on the bank of the Miljacka River. You can sample fruits and vegetables or talk with friendly locals. Next, stop at the Husref Bay’s Mosque which is the most important Islamic structures in the country which embodies Ottoman architecture. Visit the Olympic Stadium and Gavrilo Princip Museum before enjoying the afternoon to yourself. Make an optional trip to the important Sarajevo War Tunnel where humanitarian aid and food was transported into the city and you can experience it for yourself by walking through in its entirety. Or visit the Academy of Fine Art which is housed in a former Evangelical church. Dinner is on your own so make sure to experience the local cuisine of the region in a traditional restaurant. Day 3, Sarajevo/Mostar/Dubrovnik
Continue along the Neretva River, the largest river in the Eastern Adriatic region. Stop in Mostar the largest and arguably one of the most important cities in Herzegovina. Make sure you admire the amazing stone bridge that was constructed during the XVI century. Also visit the remains of the Turkish quarter that was once an important part of life in the city. Continue your journey to the city of Dubrovnik. Overnight in Dubrovnik. (B, D)
Day 4, Dubrovnik
Your tour with the Rector’s Palace, Bell Tower Clock, Orlando’s Column and the Sponza Palace and experience the charm of “Old Dubrovnik” this morning. Start. You will also see the Dominican Monastery known for its majestic floral cloister and many paintings. Next visit the Franciscan Monastery with its renowned Pharmacy, which began in 1318 and is the oldest in Europe. Also enjoy the garden with is Romanesque arches and columns and enjoy a peaceful walk. The rest of the day is at leisure to discover the rest of the city. Visit the Aquarium or the Synagogue which was built in the XV century and is the second oldest in Europe. Stroll through the charming streets to find a restaurant for dinner. Make sure to sample the delicious local cuisine. Overnight in Dubrovnik. (B)
Day 5, Dubrovnik/Split
Depart Dubrovnik and begin your travel along the spectacular Adriatic coast towards Split in the north. You will pass quaint old fishing villages and new resorts along the way. In Split, you will tour the historic inner city, built around the Roman Emperor Diocletian’s Palace. The palace is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site and is known for its irregular shape. View the remnants of Split’s Roman heritage, its Renaissance and Gothic structures, Jupiter’s Temple and the Cathedral. Experience the Peristil, a public meeting place within the palace walls which becomes an open air stage in the summer when the Split Summer Festival takes place. Overnight in Split. (B, D)
Day 6, Split/Trogir/Plitvice
Continue your journey to a hidden gem, the city of Trogir. The medieval town of Trogir is situated on a small island connected to the mainland by bridges. Originally founded in the III century it was colonized by the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines and Venetians. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage site and scholars from around the world gather to study and paint here. Then journey to Plitvice Lakes National Park the oldest national park in Southeast Asia and admire the stunning natural beauty. Overnight in Plitvice. (B, D)
Day 7, Plitvice/Opatija/Postojna/Bled
Visit the popular resort Opatija in the beautiful bay of Kvarner. Opatija was a favorite former Imperial resort city. Huge parks, botanical gardens and gorgeous waters surround this little known area which is perfect for relaxing. Later, drive across the border into Slovenia and on to picturesque town of Bled. Day 8, Bled
Your day will include a tour of the stunning town of Bled. This charming town sits on a beautiful lake. The magnificent Bled Castle is perched on a cliff high above the lake with exquisite view of the town and the nearby mountains. The rest of the day is at leisure for optional activities. You can choose to visit the small island in the middle of the lake which used to be a worship place for Živa the goddess of love and fertility. Or stroll along the lake and breathe in the fresh air while visiting many of its charming shops. Relax with a delicious meal in an intimate restaurant for dinner. Overnight in Bled. (B)
Day 9, Bled/Ljubljana/Zagreb
Begin your day in the Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. Start with a walking tour of the city and visit the captivating old center which dates back centuries. Walk through the Central open-air Market and the Three Bridges, both designed by famous architect Jože Plečnik. View Baroque Town Hall and Robba’s Fountain which was inspired by Bernini’s Four Rivers Fountain in Rome. Spend some time walking through the city to find a local restaurant to try the local cuisine for dinner. Then, continue to Zagreb, the capital city of Croatia. Overnight in Zagreb. (B)
Day 10, Zagreb
Start your day with a tour of the medieval Upper Town of Zagreb. Continue on to view St. Mark’s Church and St. Catherine’s Church which was modeled off Giacomo da Vignola’s Il Gesu in Rome. The majestic Cathedral is a must-see, as is the noble Parliament and the Government Palace. The rest of the day is yours to explore the roantic winding streets of the old town and marvel in the gilded statue of the Virgin surrounded by angels or to take an optional excursion with dinner into the surrounding countryside.
