Day 1: Ljubljana
Arrival to Ljubljana airport, followed by private transfer to your hotel. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon at leisure. Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, is a beautiful small city situated on the river Ljubljanica that flows between the city center and the castle hill above. Its river banks are filled with great restaurants, and chic bars popular with visitors and locals alike. The town boasts the most relaxing atmosphere of all European capitals and offers endless cultural events and excellent quality of life. Overnight in Hotel Antiq, Ljubljana.
Day 2: Ljubljana
After breakfast, begin a full day of sightseeing of the vibrant Slovenian capital of Ljubljana in the company of your local expert. The tiny city center is immediately captivating. Part of the charm is doubtless the emerald green Ljubljanica River that winds its way slowly through the Old Town, providing a focal point and the perfect backdrop for the cafes and restaurants that line the banks. Partly to its aesthetic tension between the stately baroque houses along the river and the white neoclassical, modern, and Secessionist set pieces that dot the streets and bridges everywhere. Explore the baroque town buildings, the colorful farmer’s market, and discover the cathedral of St. Nicholas. Walk across Dragon Bridge, an Art Nouveau masterpiece adorned with dragons and symbol of Ljubljana. Then stroll beside the majestic Ljubljanica River, to the centrally located Prešernov Trg. Overnight in Hotel Antiq, Ljubljana.
Day 3: Ljubljana/Bled/Ljubljana
Continue towards beautiful Bled, superbly located in the Alps. Enjoy a “pletna” boat ride to St. Mary’s Island. And while there, admire the renowned church that was built into the rock of this small island. Climb up ninety-nine steps to reach the lake’s highest point and to experience other spectacular views. If you still have energy remaining, do not forget to ring the church’s “wishing bell,” which is rumored to bring everyone good luck! Overnight in Hotel Antiq, Ljubljana.
Day 4: Ljubljana/Postojna/Zagreb
Explore Postojna Cave that conceals one of the largest network of caves in the world with 14 miles of underground passageways. Enjoy a miniature train ride that takes you through the first 4 miles to reveal a succession of well-lit rock formations. This strange underground world is home of the snakelike “human fish” on view in an aquarium in the Great Hall. Eyeless and colorless because of countless millennia of life in total darkness, these amphibians can live for up to 60 years. Overnight in Hotel Dubrovnik, Zagreb.
Day 5: Zagreb
Stroll the charming streets of Zagreb and admire the architecture of lively Ban Jelačić Square. Pass through popular Tkalčićeva Street, walk to the delightful Kamenita Vrata, and visit St. Mark’s Church with its brilliant multicolor tile roof, the baroque church of St Catherine, the Cathedral of St Stephen and the Parliament with the Government Palace.
