Day 1, Ljubljana

Upon arrival in Ljubljana you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is for welcome orientation meeting including welcome drink. Overnight in Ljubljana. (B, D)

 

 

Day 2, Postojna and Lipica

Today you will discover the beautiful Karst region. This area has been inhabited since the Paleolithic era!  Visit the Postojna Cave, the longest cave system in the country and the longest in the world that is publically accessible.  Continue to Predjama the medieval castle built in the middle of a cliff.    It is truly unique and has been rebuilt several times due to natural disasters since its construction in 1274. Drive to Slovenian coast tonight for dinner at local restaurant and make sure to sample the delectable seafood. Overnight in Piran. (B, D)

Day 3, Piran, Portorož and Goriška Brda

Stop in the popular resort town of Portorož on the coast and then continue to Sečovlje to see its Salt -pans.  The salt pans are the northernmost salt in the Mediterranean and still produced in a method based on a 700 year old tradition.  Next travel inland to Nova Gorica.  Spend the rest of the day at leisure or you can take part in an optional tour to the vineyard region of Goriška Brda where you will have the possibility to taste local cuisine and wines.  The wines are distinct and bring out the flavors of the land and culture of the region. Overnight in Nova Gorica. (B)

Day 4, Soča Valley

This morning drive beside the emerald green Soča River, through Kobarid.  This town was mentioned in Hemmingway’s famous novel, Farewell to Arms.  The Soča valley saw at least 12 battles between the Italian forces and Austro-Hungarian Empire during the war.  Today visit the WWI museum and remember the tragic loses of this devastating war.  After the visit you will travel to Bled and end the day in this peaceful town situated by a lake in the beautiful Alps. This serene town is absolutely charming and the alpine scenery is breathtaking. Overnight in Bled. (B)

Day 5, Bled

Today you will have a sightseeing tour of the stunning town of Bled.  The town sits at the edge of Lake Bled which was formed after the recession of the Bohinj glacier.  Visit the churches and monuments that are a part of this beautiful lake town and enjoy walking through the peaceful streets.  View the imposing Bled Castle that is perched on a cliff high above the lake.  Now the castle holds a museum, but a Roman tower once stood where the castle is now.  You can take an optional trip to the medieval town of Škofja Loka.  Visit the stunning castle that rises above the convergence of the two Sava Rivers with a spectacular view.  Also view the dramatic text in the Slovene language written in 1721. Enjoy dinner on your own tonight and sample some of the regions signature dishes. Overnight in Bled. (B)

Day 6, Bled

Enjoy a day of leisure in Bled.  You have the possibility to join an optional tour to Lake Bohinj, another beautiful alpine lake town. Or you can take an optional tour to the Island in the middle of the Bled Lake and view the town from its remote location. Stretch your legs with a visit to Vintgar Gorge or the Pokljuka ravine where paths for visitors lead them to its center and most beautiful part.  Or you can visit the Sheppard’s museum and taste the best Slovenian cheese, don’t forget to try some with wine later!   Tonight is your farewell dinner at local restaurant to culminate your exciting trip through Slovenia. Overnight in Bled. (B, D)

Day 7, Depart Bled

After breakfast you will be transferred to Ljubljana airport, Koper port or Venice airport for your flight home.
