Day 1: Dubrovnik

Upon arrival at Dubrovnik Airport, transfer to hotel for dinner and overnight. Overnight in Dubrovnik. (D)



Day 2: Dubrovnik/Budva/Shkodra/Tirana

Dubrovnik is steeped in sunshine and bathed in mild Mediterranean breezes, a lush region of coves, forested islands and idyllic beaches. Visit the beautiful cloister at the Franciscan Monastery. It is a home to one of the world’s oldest pharmacies, which has been open since 1317. Delight in the artistic treasures of the Assumption of the Virgin, and visit the Rector’s Palace, and XIV century Dominican Monastery. Begin your journey by traveling inland to Budva known for its romantic Old City encircled by ancient walls from the Venetian period. Continue in to Shkodër, once the capital of the Illyrian Kingdom (III B.C.) and discover the ancient stories it holds. Finally, end your day in the city of Tirana, the modern capital of Albania. Overnight in Tirana. (B & D)

Day 3: Tirana/Ohrid

Your morning begins with a sightseeing tour of Tirana, which has been continuously inhabited since 1614 and originally founded by the Ottomans.  You will visit Skanderbeg Square and the Mosque of Ethem Bey which was closed during the communist rule.  Your visit to the National Museum will allow you to discover thousands of years of Albanian history, which dates back to the III century.   You will be amazed by the historic treasures of Albania held in this museum. This afternoon depart for the city of Ohrid in Macedonia, driving via Elbasan an ancient town in Albania that was once occupied by Christians and Ottomans. Overnight in Ohrid. (B, D)

Day 4: Ohrid

Today enjoy a full day in the lakeside resort of Ohrid, classified as UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage site.  Ohrid is one of the 28 UNESCO sites that is recognized for both its Natural and Cultural aspects. The first pan-Slavic University in Europe, the famous “Ohrid Literary School” was founded here by St. Clement and St. Naum of Ohrid.  Your sightseeing tour includes the church of St. Sofia (XI century), the most eminent mediaeval monument in Macedonia with magnificent Byzantine fresco paintings.  Continue to St. Clement Church known for its icon of Annunciation. In the afternoon a short drive to visit St. Naum Monastery built on the beautiful shores of Ohrid Lake in 900 A.D.  It is and dedicated to the Slavic missionary and educator St. Naum of Ohrid who is also buried in the church.  Spend your evening in this quaint town and enjoy some of the traditional local cuisine in a small intimate restaurant. Overnight in Ohrid. (B)

Day 5: Ohrid/Skopje

Morning departure for Skopje, the capital of Macedonia. Your tour will include a visit to the Kale Fortress which was built in the VI century AD which was constructed from ancient Roman stone. Continue on to the Church of the Holy Savior with its iconostas, one of the finest samples of traditional walnut woodcarving.  Finish with the Old Bazaar and Stone Bridge which is present in the city’s coat of arms and flag.  Drive through the lush slopes of the Vodno Mountain to the Monastery of St. Panteleimon.  This monastery is said to have been rebuilt by St. Clement, who is buried there and contains XII century iconostas and frescoes ranking among the highest achievements of Byzantine art of this period. Overnight in Skopje. Day 6: Skopje/Kolašin

Morning drive through the countryside via Peć and Berane and along the impressive Morača River Canyon. Afternoon arrival at Kolašin founded in the XVII century, which is spread along the left bank of the river Tara, situated at the altitude of 954m. The Bjelasica Mountains surround the entire area with luscious green pines in a sea of deep green.  This area boats a popular skiing and air spa resort which is a favorite among Europeans. Overnight in Kolašin. Day 7: Kolašin/Dubrovnik

Morning departure to Cetinje to visit the King Nikola Museum.  It was once the residence of the Montenegrin King Nikola I Petrović, the only King of Montenegro.  Continue to Budva and Kotor, which sits along the beautiful Bay of Boka Kotorska (Bay of Kotor).  They are classified as UNESCO sites of World Natural and Historical Heritage.  Continue to visit St. Tryphon’s Cathedral which holds a treasury of beautiful paintings and frescoes done by local artists between the XIV and XVII century. We end the tour by driving to Dubrovnik along the picturesque Bay of Kotor. Overnight in Dubrovnik. (B & D)

Day 8: Dubrovnik

Morning transfer to the airport.
