Arrival to Zagreb airport, followed by private transfer to your hotel. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon at leisure. Springing up from two medieval settlements – Kaptol and Gradec, which form the core of the old Upper Town, it is a true Central European city and with the surrounding settlements it has about one million inhabitants. Pass through popular Tkalčićeva Street, walk to the delightful Kamenita Vrata, visit St. Mark’s Church with its brilliant multicolor tile roof, the baroque church of St Catherine, the Cathedral of St Stephen and the Parliament with the Government Palace. Visit the 19th century National Theater, Museum of Arts and Craft, the University and the beautiful Zrinjevac Park with numerous elaborate Secession buildings. Enjoy amazing views of Zagreb at night from the Upper Town. Take an optional drive to Varaždin situated on a plain near the river Drava. Varaždin is the most harmonious and beautifully preserved baroque town in this corner of the continent. Today you will take a day trip to the exquisite Plitvice Lakes National Park, one of Europe’s largest nature reserve parks. Plitvice is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a fantastic place to get outdoors and experience the lush green landscapes and fresh air in Croatia. Walk, hike or bike your way through the park and enjoy the emerald green waters and bubbling waterfalls that characterize this gorgeous park. Then continue to Rovinj for the evening. Day at leisure. Admire Rovinj’s incredible setting with centuries old red-roofed houses clustered around the hill of a former island. Stroll its narrow streets and explore local neighborhoods, art galleries, museums, architectural landmarks, outdoor markets and specialty shops. Stop for lunch at any of the nearby restaurants and taste delicious Istrian specialties. Our walking tour is a head-spinning journey past some of the best known sights of Venice along with some unassuming gems. The first stop will be in one of those highlights, the Rialto Bridge. We will proceed passing by Marco Polo’s house and hearing about the Venetian son who went to sea one day and came back with stories of China and a world in the East that few had ever seen. We will see lively Campo San Luca and Campo San Giovanni Paolo where locals carry out their daily lives in the shadow of spectacular architecture. Just as we started with a pop we will end our tour with a bang visiting Piazza San Marco. We will stand in front of the impressive Doge’s Palace where Venice famous lover and writer, Casanova was held in an attic prison before he managed to escape. Then it’s on to the main event- the stunning Basilica of San Marco. Here you will hear about how St Mark’s remains arrived here illegally and see all sorts of treasures, molded in this very city or plundered during the crusades. We will visit the second level of the Basilica for views over the Piazza below where string quartets play and waiters bustle around piazza-side-cafe. Overnight at Hotel Bucintoro, Venice.
